I own a Radeon 9600 pro video card. I downloaded a driver from one of the SuSE ftp sites, and got it to work fairly easily. 3D works great, glxgears shows a lot of fps. :-) However, the problem is that, when I kill the X server for whatever reason, the computer just locks up. When I restore the original xorg.conf, everything works great, and killing the X server does not lock up the computer. Am I the only one with this problem? Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Mine doesn't lock up, but takes a bit more time than the original. It sits there, but I have mouse movement. Then a bit later it exits. How long have you let it sit? Got the mouse pointer? I let it try for a while. KDE starts to load, and than just stops dead, no disk activity, no nothing. I can't even get to a console with ctrl+alt+f1.

Yes, I had tons of 'experiences' with my ATI 9200...which I why I got rid of it and bought an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 for less money, better performance, easy to install drivers and no 'experiences'.

About lock-ups and assorted fglrx/ATI driver mysteries: there are a great many posts and many suggestions, some very helpful, on the linux driver forums at www.rage3d.com. Worth a trawl? :) Fish
