Re: Help [SLE] My Keyboard has disappeared and I can not type anything
Hello. Thank you for replying. I am unable to type at all on the login screen. I tried what you said but, as I understand it at least, you have to login before it becomes a default. I did find out more about my problem. It seems to only be during the graphical login. I do not remember how but I did get to a command line during one boot up and was able to login. I went to yast and changed the graphical login from KDM, where I was starting to think the problem was occurring, to XMD, I think. When I rebooted I had the same problem again. I also found out that if I restarted the X Server that I could login to a terminal, nothing else, but could not get to a GUI screen. Would reinstalling KDE2 correct this problem? Or is there something else I can do? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Thank you, James Ruhsam *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 1/21/2001 at 2:24 AM nishchal goyal wrote:
Go to KDE control panel and in the default desktop setting change it to GNOME. Then boot your machine. I think this will help you.
Thanx...... Nishchal

You can get to a console (or 'command line') by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F<number of console> when you have an X server running. For example, to get to console 1, you would press Ctrl-Alt-<F1>. You can also boot straight to the console (without starting KDM/XDM/GDM/etc.) by typing 'linux 2' and the LILO prompt, assuming you use LILO of course. Do you notice any error messages on startup? Any failed services?

I can't help you in that respect. If nothing else works, I don't see what harm it would do. Bye, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\
