Using SLES10 SP1 and using it as a Samba PDC (i configured Samba server with yast). I can join (using a winxp system for right now) the domain without any problems. I then created a user on the samba server using yast->user management; tried to login on the winxp system and get "domain is not available". My question is, what is the correct way to create users for samba? Do i need to use ldap? The user and password have to be created in SuSE using Yast and in Samba
(using swat). On the PC here, Samba is restarted to ensure the new
users are setup.

If you use SWAT, there is a tab called "Password" along the top. Clicking on this shows Server Password Management page. On this page enter the user name and password exactly as in Yast user management. The user name and password in Yast and Samba have to be the same. ___________________________________________________________ All new Yahoo! SWAT has to enabled in Yast -> Network Services -> Network Services (xinetd). Start a browser and type in URL http://localhost:901. On the dialog box that appears type in root as user and the password. ___________________________________________________________ Try the all-new Yahoo! Mail. Correction, the linux and samba password do NOT have to be the same. user name, yes, but not password. For the OP, create the Linux user, then as root (to NOT use SWAT, which is easier for most things) do smbpasswd -a $USER (i.e. linux username), which will prompt for the samba password 2x. Then you should be able to log in from Windows. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
