RE: [SLE] LenZ or other SuSE Employees- Please let the loyal SuSE users know what's up!!! (was RE: [SLE] SuSE 7 Deluxe)
There may be a second issue. How many retailers will stock both versions? Around here it's hard enough to find SuSE. I can live with having to mail order it but it's kind of irrating not being able to drop into a local store and pick it up. The local stores often have redhat,Caldera and sometimes mandrake. Multiple versions will just make it that much worse. Shops only have so much shelf space.
This sounds like you are inadvertently selling Linux short. Linux is kicking off in a massive way -- who is to say they won't stock both Personal and Pro and allocate the extra shelving space? Most computer shops I know of have RH's many Editions and Caldera's. The reason why SuSE haven't had multiple Editions is that they haven't had different editions before. And my local PC World has more and more SuSE linux poking off the shelves each time I walk in. A very very welcomed sign of things to come. Here's one for your marketing department, SuSE, -- a 100% SuSE Linux outlet on the high street. None of the other distros have this... why not be the first? :) Kev -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Shelf space is always at a premiumn at any retail shop. Off the top of my head. Corel has two versions Caldera has two Suse now has two Redhat has ? Mandrake? No retailer is going to carry everything. The local big bookstore has one end display with Redhat on it. Don't expect a second end display. They have only so many in the computer book/software section. It's the same thing with shelf space. Honestly I doubt most retailers would even understand the differences. Having said that I wouldn't mind a smaller distribution that was very much up to date. With everything heavily tested. I'm guessing it would be easier to do that with a smaller package then the current six disks. For me lose the src packages [I'll grab them off the net if I want them] Lose the HOWTO's [same story] Don't try to offer every thing. I'll pay the same [maybe more] for the smaller package. I've bought SuSE in the past not because of the size of the package but because of the quality of the product. How many of the people on this list have installed every file on the 6disks? Even looked at the them?
