Hello all: I am searching for a lame GUI frontend that is able to encode wave files without a preceding ripping. That is I can specify the wave files on the HD that I want to encode. The frontends I found so far (eg grip) always try to rip first (or I just don't know how to skip the ripping step). If you aware of one like this, please write. Thanks, IG ________________________________________________________________________ Képkidolgozás már bruttó 25,- Ft-tól! Audacity will export wav files as mp3's or ogg's. It's quick and easy! GLame will also export wav files in many different formats, but needs recompiling to add lame. Bernd

Thanks! I've checked audacity. I can't set the properties of the output mp3 except of bitrate (like quality, VBR/ABR/CBR). I haven't recompiled GLame yet. I'm not sure it is worth. Can I set the above parameters in that? Thanks, IG ________________________________________________________________ Elégedetlen helyzetével? Új kihívásokra vágyik? I only used it yesterday for the first time. I'm going to be doing the same thing with all my wav files soon. Dig around. Audacity seems to be a robust application, and right out of the box seems fine for my needs. The mp3 file that I created sounded great, yet it is only for personal use to listen to music in my living room and office, and not with super high end speakers. Bernd

Take a look at klira: http://klira.sourceforge.net/ Kind regards, Raul

Thanks. I have built klira. It starts but it crashes shortly after starting conversion. Furthermore I can't set lame options except of bitrate: there are a few checkboxes but they are grayed out. Am I missing some plugins? How can I check it? (For compiling klira I installed gstreamer and gstreamer plugins for _9.3_ from gurus site. I could not find packages with the required lame-plugin for 10.0, the system I use. Nevertheless the build process run w/o errors.)
