Most stable at high resolutions *2D* video card?
Hi Folks, Just wondering if anyone had opinions on what card would be best for 2D on SuSE 9.0, as far as stability and speed at 1600x1200@85hz. I'm sick of all the Nvidia problems I'm having, I'm considering getting something else completely. 3D performance (or even support) is of no importance to me. Thanks, Matt Beazer

If you want best quality 2D then go with the general consensus amongst those who fool around with Photoshop: Matrox cannot be beaten for quality 2D. Cheers. -- Indecision is the key to flexibility.
How solid is the support in X for the G450 or G550? Probably the G450 would be the one I'd look into, as I've read a bit and there doesn't seem to be much of a speed difference between the two in 2D, and the price difference is $88 vs. $103. I just want glitch-free operation out of the box and excellent high resolution support, something the nvidia cards don't seem to do very well. The last time I used 3D was playing Wolfenstein, and that was over a year ago. :) Thanks, MattB On Sunday 28 December 2003 2:44 am, Basil Chupin wrote:

This box with 8.2 uses a G550 and plays VariCAD just fine, but then so does the 7.2 box with a G450. No, I don't know enough to be testing the fancy stuff, just keeping my head above water doing CAD drawings for building construction projects.

If you try and do a dummy install of a card, you will find that 450 and 550 are both supported. (Just for the record, I am using v9 Pro.) Cheers. -- Indecision is the key to flexibility.

Stability is not an issue. Once properly set up almost anything works well and is very stable. Especially at 2d work. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
