[opensuse] AMD Carrizo Firmware with Leap 42.2
Hello everybody, I just upgraded to an AMD Carrizo notebook. It works fairly decent. Just the fan runs a bit to often for my taste. glxinfo|grep vendor says: server glx vendor string: SGI client glx vendor string: Mesa Project and SGI OpenGL vendor string: X.Org It seems as if no hw-driver is loaded. So I upgraded to kernel-stable 4.9 and its equivalent kernel-firmware. But to no improvement. When I look up /lib/firmware/radeon "CARRIZO" does not show up. It's predecessor KAVERI does as -rw-r--r-- 3 root root 8832 16. Dez 2015 kaveri_ce.bin -rw-r--r-- 3 root root 8832 16. Dez 2015 kaveri_me.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17024 1. Apr 2016 kaveri_mec2.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17024 1. Apr 2016 kaveri_mec.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8832 1. Apr 2016 kaveri_pfp.bin -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10496 16. Dez 2015 kaveri_rlc.bin -rw-r--r-- 5 root root 4456 16. Dez 2015 kaveri_sdma1.bin -rw-r--r-- 5 root root 4456 16. Dez 2015 kaveri_sdma.bin -rw-r--r-- 5 root root 232752 1. Mai 2016 kaveri_uvd.bin -rw-r--r-- 5 root root 101072 16. Dez 2015 kaveri_vce.bin Is there a fairly easy solution? Can I actually simply clone https://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/radeon_ucode/carrizo/ in there and run an mkinitrd? Is it a better idea to run tumbleweed and wait for the 42.3 release? To answer my own question: I upgraded to tumbleweed. I now have the specific firmware for Carrizo and amdgpu running. I formatted the disk beforehand, so it does come out of the box. The machine runs cooler and quieter. So, if you have trouble with the latest AMD chips, you could try to upgrade to tumbleweed. Regards, Simon Am 03.02.2017 um 18:29 schrieb Simon Heimbach:
