Hi, In SuSE 9.0, if I want to load the driver using 'insmod', it results in a following error: powerfull:~ # insmod tg3 insmod: can't read 'tg3': No such file or directory But If I provide a full path it works fine. But will not allow one to pass parameters to the driver. Any help in this appreciated. thanks in advance, Anil

I just found I am passing wrong parameters and hence it didn't allow. But still with insmod it is not able load the driver. I did a strace of that and I found it just try to open tg3 from current location. The output of strace is: ++++ set_thread_area({entry_number:-1 -> 6, base_addr:0x400179a0, limit:1048575, seg_32bit:1, contents:0, read_exec_only:0, limit_in_pages:1, seg_not_present:0, useable:1}) = 0 munmap(0x40018000, 50949) = 0 brk(0) = 0x8057000 brk(0x8078000) = 0x8078000 brk(0) = 0x8078000 create_module(umovestr: Input/output error 0, 0) = -1 ENOSYS (Function not implemented) open("tg3", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) write(2, "insmod: can\'t read \'tg3\': No suc"..., 52insmod: can't read 'tg3': No such file or directory ) = 52 exit_group(1) = ? +++++ If I use modprobe it first checks where tg3.ko is available and from there it does a open. This is true for insmod in 2.4. I set MODPATH also and still it didn't loaded. Is there any problem in insmod or we have to use only modprobe in 2.6 (SuSE9) ? <snip> You ran strace and not "man insmod"? Yes insmod requires a full path now, no it doesn't look at MODPATH, yes modprobe is the recommended tool to use, as it was in 2.4 too
