[opensuse] Sound config problem with 10.2 on Acer Travelmate 529ATX
Hi all, this is my first posting so my apologies if it's off-topic or in the wrong place! I have an Acer TravelMate 529ATX laptop which was perviously running OpenSUSE 10.1 with normally working sound support. However when doing a fresh install from the 10.2 DVD, my sound no longer works. Configuring the sound card from YaST appears to work as expected, can play the test sound and alter the volumes. Module is snd_ali5451. However I haven't found any apps that can see a configured sound device, except the command line tool for configuring ALSA, which also works fine. XMMS does manage to play an audio CD after complaining that it can't see a sound device. The volume needs to be set via the YaST sound configuration or it's at some quiet default. Is this a new bug? Hi Darren, Have you tried, on the command line, alsamixer to set the the settings. Then "alsactl store" to save the settings? Phil -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Are you a member of the audio group? May not help, but you never know. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.2 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Actually that was it! To my surprise and amazement I am hardly a member of anything. This didn't happen to me after a fresh install of 10.1 - I would have used expert options in both cases. Is it possible the default groups got left off or reduced in number to the point where an average user would be confused? (Hey I didn't even pick it up, I thought it was related to my old laptop...)
