RE: [SLE] nvidia gforce mx & linux - no go. someone at suse investigate
Ive tried this with 4.01 i download the suse 6.4 version of xfree4.01 and then the nvidia drivers ( which i compiled from source ) gives me errors saying the modules are newer than another file, doesnt explain which. ( when i run XFree86 ) hould i try again by downloading the bog standard Xfree86 4.01 from the xfree86 site ? even if i try and run an ordinary svga server i get a mass of snow on the screen, ( xfree86 ). Im surprised at this. Could my card be faulty ? thanks dids -----Original Message----- From: Gary [mailto:medmanks@mindspring.com] Sent: 14 September 2000 15:40 To: dids Cc: Suse-Linux-E Subject: Re: [SLE] nvidia gforce mx & linux - no go. someone at suse investigate On Thu, Sep 14, 2000 at 08:28:33AM +0100 or thereabouts, dids wrote:
Ive given up tryign to get linux to run on my system since upgrading my graphics card.
this is a real disappointment as i couldnt wait to see how fast it was going to fly. Someone somewhere desperately needs to sort this out as the mx is a very good and reasonably priced card.
Install XFREE86 4.1 and then install the Linux reference drivers from Nvidia. This has worked successfully for many people. Xfree 3.xx will not work, must use 4.x -- Best regards, Gary -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Are you using the latest drivers from nvidia? I believe it is version 0.9.5. Prior to that they maintained two versions of the GLX drivers, one for xfree86-4.0 and one for xfree86-4.01. The new drivers are only for 4.01. I have a GeForce 256, and it is working great. What type of card do you have?
