Opera and the missing libXM.so.2 - A mystery solved
Subject pompous enough to get your attention? Good ;-))))))))))))) Many of you have stumbled over Opera 7.X requiring libXm.so2 and got the advice to just ignore it as Opera would run without it. After having had an email exchange with one of the Opera developers today I know a bit more. It does indeed run without it, but you can't use netscape plugins (at least older ones) like the flash player. Now there are two ways to solve the problem: 1) Download the Opera 7.20b preview. It contains /usr/lib/opera/plugins/operamotifwrapper-3, a plugin linked against libXM.so.3 (which SuSE supplies since 8.1 in its openmotif package). That plugin should get renamed to /usr/lib/opera/plugins/operamotifwrapper by the installer. 2) Get opera-7.11-1.i586.rpm from ftp.suse.com or its mirrors in /pub/people/pthomas/8.2 . This contains the plugin from 7.20b and should install without having to use --force. Philipp

Still bitchs unless you do --nodeps .. :) 3:38PM ben@frell:~/ > sudo rpm -ivh opera-7.11-0.i586.rpm error: failed dependencies: libXm.so.2 is needed by opera-7.11-0 -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Yeah, my first attempt where I moved the original operamotifwrapper to operamotifwrapper-2, until I realized that that would keep the dependency. I've just copied the correct rpm to the staging server and it should appear after the next sync. You'll identify it by the time stamp :) Thanks for the note! I took the easy way out and installed lesstif. Terence

um.. maybe it would help to get the right build? (disclaimers: a) not at my linux box, b) not into opera, so i don't plan on installing it) -- trey

Well, it was the only build on the mirror. I just installed it to see what was like. :) Opera is a PITA to use with CrossOver so I'll keep the *free* Mozilla...which is quite speedy enough on my 2.4ghz P4. :) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
