Question, When will XFCE be a part of base install of OpenSUSE? Also, there use to be a pay disc for software that didn't fall under GPL. What is that disc now? Is that the Add On Disc? -- Command, n.: Statement presented by a human and accepted by a computer in such a manner as to make the human feel as if he is in control. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

This, I don't know. But I usually do a minimal graphical installation and install XFCE afterwards. Would be great anyway if there are more options to choose than just GNOME or KDE. For example, I sometimes want to install both of them. But this can only be achived by doing so afterwards. But adding XFCE as an install option would be great.

Yes. And you can also use "non-oss-inst-source" in order to integrate these packages as installation source. You can add Gnome and KDE both at install time, just change the package selections. The same goes for some of the other GUI's, although I believe XFCE isn't on the media :( I just select my primary GUI (usually KDE) and then select the software section in the setup window and add Gnome and add/remove other packages I want. -- David Wright Wright Information Services Europa "I got to go figure," the tenant said. I know that, of course :). But for unexperienced users, it might be useful to select KDE and/or GNOME. Or better not :).

Yes, that's right. But you can add any network installation source at the beginning of the installation (add additional install resources). That is actually a great feature. Is there a SUSE-XFCE project? I thought that XFCE is not well configurated and/or integrated into SUSE. Would be great to start a kind of SUSE-XFCE project similar to Xubuntu. I think that would be great, I been using XFCE now for 6 months and I love the fact it does use as much memory as Gnome/KDE. And that you can use both of windowmanager apps with it. It would be nice to have XFCE built that were opensuse friendly. I am not programmer, but a sysadmin that love to use it and give feed back on it. Yes, indeed. I installed it on my old laptop (P-III 650MHz, 256 MB RAM). With XFCE having both Firefox and Thunderbird opened, it uses just a bit more than 200 MB of memory and everything works fastly. I tried to install Xubuntu but had problems activating the e100-NIC. And the Prism-based WLAN PC card did not work either. So, I decided to go back to SUSE and install 10.1 (with the NetworkManager) and XFCE.

Me not, either. But I managed to get XFCE up and running within minutes. But I would love to see a group of people to go to the time and effort of improving XFCE on openSUSE. 5 years ago I used the option "all" in the install choice, this installed 7Gb on my 20Gb disk. but such option, now, could install... 100Gb??? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

I'd love this to be so too! I use it on a couple of old 500 and 400mhz/512mb ram class pentia, and it will run on those whereas the other guis like kde (which I generally like for the bells and whistles) drag most mightily upon. I'm really not technical at all, so don't know how or if it is possible, to put in the Suse menu button onto xfce4, so one can point and click to bring up a list of programs and tools. Anyone know how/if this can be done? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

Not a SUSE menu, per se, but in the menu tab of the Desktop settings dialog one can edit the Desktop menu (or run xfce4-menueditor directly). Uncheck the box in the "--- include --- system" and you'll get a much bigger menu when you right-click on the desktop that includes any apps that follow XDG guidelines in placing their .desktop files in the proper place(s). Adding the Xfce menu to the panel will duplicate this. Just a warning, though. Using this will cause xfdesktop to consume a bit more memory as icons get cached, though disabling application icons will reduce the hit, both in the desktop menu and the panel menu. I haven't checked out the 4.4 betas, so I don't know how successfully this has been addressed. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org
