Konqueror seems to have suddenly lost the plot. Now when I try to open an html link it displays a message asking if I want open or save the file, but if I select open it displays the following nonsense: "There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle this file type." I don't recall changing any file associations or other configurations recently, but obviously I must have done something to upset Konqueror. Can anyone offer any suggestions where I should start looking to resolve Konqueror's memory loss? Control Center > Internet & network > File Associations. You will see on the left after you click to open text and there may be more than one for text/html. delete one. I've had konqueror do this before; Micxz Dave Barton wrote:

Thanks for the suggestion, but: a) I don't have Internet & Network > File Associations, here Control Center offers KDE Components > File Associations. b) There is only one text/html entry "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing" c) All html/htm links will activate Konquerour, but it continues to insist that it does not know how to handle html files. Which make it an exceptionally useful web browser ;) Could the problem be in the webbrowsing profile? If so, where is it located? Dave On Wed, 2003-10-29 at 15:43, Micah Love wrote:

b) There is only one text/html entry "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing"
Change the command to this: kfmclient openURL %u text/html Charles -- Running Windows on a Pentium is like having a brand new Porsche but only be able to drive backwards with the handbrake on. (Unknown source)

Thanks Charles, but still the same message, even after restarting kde. Dave

Try this in a console and see if it works and post any errors you are getting: kfmclient openURL http://www.linuxtoday.com Charles -- "All language designers are arrogant. Goes with the territory..." (By Larry Wall)

The console shows no errors. Konqueror opens then displays the following message: "There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle this file type." Dave

"There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle this file type."
Ok, let us try this: (1) Do a search in ~/.kde/share/applink for any file that contains kfmclient. konqueror, and html and delete them. (2) Now put the attached file in /opt/kde3/share/applink/System (3) Restart kde and see if it works. I did everything as proposed, but the result was exactly the same. Charles, I thank you for your time, patience and effort, but I think it's time to give this one away. In the time between my last post and now, I have decided to "bite the bullet" and upgrade to 9.0 with a clean install. Lately there have been a number of quirks and peculiarities happening with my current setup, so I think it time for a completely fresh start. I have placed my order for SUSE 9.0 Pro and my supplier estimates that I should receive my shiny new distro in the next 12-48 hours :) Again, many thanks for your assistance. Regards Dave
