I have a suse 9.3 box connected vi wireless network to a windows XP laptop. The windows XP laptop has a modem connection to my ISP. The windows modem connection is shared with the windows wireless connection. When connected to my ISP, from the suse box I can http through the wireless connection and onto the internet, but when I try to ftp (say to ftp.suse.com) I get a 421 message connection terminated by the remote server. If I ftp (say to ftp.suse.com) from the XP box it connects fine. Something is blocking my ftp from the suse box out through the XP box. I've had a look around the XP machine and I have disabled the windows firewall on the internet interface but can see no other obvious reason why I can't can't connect. BTW - Mail works through the XP box as well :-) Any help or advice appreciated. Thanks Phil

Phil, I do not have two network interfaces on my XP Pro, but I believe that the Windows Firewall is active on each NIC with it's own settings for each. If you go into your network connections window, click on the local NIC (Not the Internet NIC) and in the taskpane on the left you will see "Change Windows Firewall Settings". Entirely disable this. Remember that Window's Firewall blocks incoming requests only, so if you are getting a Refused Connection or similar error going through an XP box, it is most likely the firewall on the NIC that you are trying to connect to. Good luck. James W

James W James, Thanks for the help. I've looked at both interfaces and the firewall is off on both of them. Still got the same problem though.

Try this: - make an ftp connection from the command line. - Before doing anything else, type "EPSV4 off" See if that helps...
