[opensuse] New ATI driver, KDE 4 desktop effects
Okay, so I downloaded and installed AMD's new ATI driver, 9.1 for Linux (x86_64). My ATI Radeon X600 still doesn't provide me with desktop effects on KDE 4.1. I'm curious if any of you have tried this new driver and if it has worked for you. When I try to enable the settings, KDE immediately tells me it cannot apply them. Any of you have better luck with the 9.1 driver? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Replying to my own question... I did get the KDE 4.1 desktop effects to work with my machine after installing ATI's 9.1 driver, but I had to set "disable functionality checks" and "direct rendering". Before 9.1 was released, I was also missing the DRI section inside my xorg.conf file, and I symlinked the /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so to point to /usr/lib64/dri/fglrx_dri.so. So all-in-all, there were a few things I had to do to make it work. So far, so good... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
