[opensuse] DVD playback in Leap42.3
I have some collections of shorts on DVDs. After the first short, VLC and GNOME video players lose the audio. Dragon doesn't respond after loading the DVD. I've tried MPlayer, which has always been reliable, but can only get the Spanish translation. libdvdcss is installed, along with the standard codecs. Full-length DVDs aren't any problem. I have GNOME 3.20.4 and KDE 5.8.7 on Leap 42.3. Can someone help me troubleshoot this? You dvd drive is enforcing region coding, that is, when a region mismatch is encountered it will not allow access to encrypted sectors.
In short, acquiring and placing the proper keys in the .dvdcss folder will solve (basically using another drive set to proper region to get the keys and copying the associated folder in .dvdcss, or having someone with exact same title do so for you. Maybe the DVD is dirty or damaged- But I guess that the DVD has an advanced structural copy protection and libdvdread can't handle that. You can try playing that DVD with mplayer and dvdnav: command. Otherwise use makeMKV to rip the DVD and play the file. It will last only few minutes.
