Hi, I put some scripts in vscan's crontab : crontab -u vscan -l gives : # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - edit the master and reinstall. # (/tmp/crontab.15403 installed on Thu Jul 8 13:06:39 2004) # (Cron version -- $Id: crontab.c,v 2.13 1994/01/17 03:20:37 vixie Exp $) @hourly /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/process-quarantine.pl @hourly /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/stats-snapshot.pl @daily /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/expire-quarantine-cache.pl @weekly /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/send-quarantine-reminders.pl But it seems that the hourly scripts don't run : grep vscan /var/log/messages gives : Jul 7 00:00:00 lace3 /USR/SBIN/CRON[27250]: (vscan) CMD ( /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/expire-quarantine-cache.pl) Jul 7 00:00:00 lace3 /USR/SBIN/CRON[27248]: (vscan) CMD ( /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/send-quarantine-reminders.pl) Jul 8 00:00:00 lace3 /USR/SBIN/CRON[6089]: (vscan) CMD ( /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/send-quarantine-reminders.pl) Jul 8 00:00:00 lace3 /USR/SBIN/CRON[6091]: (vscan) CMD ( /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/expire-quarantine-cache.pl) Jul 9 00:00:00 lace3 /USR/SBIN/CRON[25043]: (vscan) CMD ( /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/expire-quarantine-cache.pl) Jul 9 00:00:00 lace3 /USR/SBIN/CRON[25041]: (vscan) CMD ( /var/amavisd/maia/scripts/send-quarantine-reminders.pl) Permissions of the files are : -rwxr-x--- 1 vscan vscan 15056 Feb 15 03:00 expire-quarantine-cache.pl -rwxr-x--- 1 vscan vscan 3560 Feb 15 13:24 generate-key.pl -rwxr-x--- 1 vscan vscan 14658 Jul 6 09:34 load-sa-rules.pl -rwxr-x--- 1 vscan vscan 17027 Jul 7 16:54 process-quarantine.pl -rwxr-x--- 1 vscan vscan 17456 Mar 19 23:19 send-quarantine-reminders.pl -rwxr-x--- 1 vscan vscan 13053 Feb 1 21:38 stats-snapshot.pl What am I missing ? All help welcome ! B.T.W. the weekly script seems to be running daily, but since I was fiddling with the crontab, I'm uncertain if this is caused by me or something else. Is this some new syntax in crontab files? I just looked for this "@hourly" entry and cannot find it. Perhaps you need to re-check the proper syntax for crontab files. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2)

I made those entries with Webmin : run on selected schedule -> hourly. I modified this to : run at times selected below ... Now it works. And crontab -u vscan -l gives a more familiar output. Thanks for the hint. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong R&D Manager ACE electronics n.v.

Actually, that syntax is supported by Vixie cron, it's just not mentioned in the man page. The source is the definitive documentation. entry.c is the one to look at @yearly or @annually: shorthand for 0 0 0 0 * @monthly: shorthand for 0 0 0 * * @weekly: shorthand for 0 0 * * 0 @daily or @midnight: shorthand for 0 0 * * * @hourly: shorthand for 0 * * * * @reboot: to be done first thing after a reboot
