I am not even remotely familiar with Debian, however, there is a debian package that I would like to be able to use. Can Debian packages (i.e. package_name.deb) be used in SuSE? Thanks, Darrell

You can convert the .deb to rpm format with alien. If you're really lucky you might even be able to use it :) Install alien.rpm from the SuSE CDs

Thanks Anders, I'll give it a try. D.C.

In general, not if it's a binary package. Binary packages are not compatible across distributions or not even different versions of the same distribution. -- -ckm

Not always anyhow, but sometimes you get lucky. Darrell, what package are you looking at? Maybe it wouldn't be too difficult to compile yourself or make an unofficial rpm for SuSE. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions

Here is the list of packages I was considering: bible-kjv-text_4.14_all.deb bible-kjv_4.14_i386.deb libc6_2.3.1-17_i386.deb libreadline4_4.3-4_i386.deb I have not yet looked for the lib packages, but thought I might be able to find them elsewhere. The bible packages are what I am most interested in. If anyone knows of a source for open source bible software, would you please share your sources. Thanks, Darrell

I would HIGHLY recommend Sword http://www.crosswire.org and a nice KDE frontend, Bibletime http://www.bibletime.info. I compiled sword on 8.2 with no problems, as well as bibletime. I installed sword with checkinstall, so I have an rpm if you got a way to send it to you (it is 7M, ver 1.55), bibletime had an rpm for suse 8.1, which worked great. :-) HTH -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM.
