The ultimate audioplayer to communicate with linux would be an ogg player. Can anybody recommend an audioplayer that is capable of playing ogg files (besides mp3)? I'm looking for a player less than E100. I found 3 myself: - Irever IFP-180T (128MB) - Iriver N10 (128MB) - Samsung YP U1X (512MB) Does anyone know, whether it is possible to copy files to those players from linux? -- TIA Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Not having used an ogg player (or an mp3 one come to that) I'm not 100% sure. However, you may like to check out these website: http://www.spinics.net/linux/mp3.php http://ifp-driver.sourceforge.net/ Hope you can find something useful on them :-) -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== PLEASE DON'T drink and drive it's not clever, it's just stupid. I have the Samsung YP-UI 2 gig model and you can copy and also delete OGG files to that model. That was why I bought it. £75 from Amazon. Mike

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the first link takes you to vendors for the various players. I am assuming (I may be wrong) that they are listed on this Linux related site because they are Linux compatible. The second site is a dedicated iRiver driver site for the iRiver series of players. Once again, my apologies for not including that in my first reply. -- ============================================== I am only human, please forgive me if I make a mistake it is not deliberate. ============================================== PLEASE DON'T drink and drive it's not clever, it's just stupid. The best support for Linux in this type of player is coming from Cowon, with the iAudio line: http://global.cowon.com (company site) http://www.iaudiophile.net/news.php (fan site) They are very good, and I strongly recommend buying from one of the few companies in this field that seems to realise the need to support the ogg vorbis format. -- Pob hwyl / Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - KDE yn Gymraeg www.eurfa.org.uk - Geiriadur rhydd i'r Gymraeg www.rhedadur.org.uk - Rhedeg berfau Cymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD

Less than a week ago, this was discussed on the list. (Look at MP3/ogg portable player.) In the sense of any given player, they should just show up as a usb drive to which you may copy your sound files. I just use my Palm Zire with the 1GB SD card to play these things. -- kai - www.perfectreign.com www.livebeans.com - the new NetBeans community 43...for those who require slightly more than the answer to life, the universe and everything.

My daughters have an iRiver and a SanDisk. The iRiver is a pain to get it to mount/work. The SanDisk oth, was a breeze. It doesn't do ogg format though, but it does mount/work without any voodoo on my part.

Does anyone know, whether it is possible to copy files to those players from linux? I use an iRiver ifp790. There is libifp and ifp_gui packages in my apt repository for suse 9.3 (and soon 10.1). I just compiled them on 10.1 for x86_64, and it works great. ifp_gui is a nicely done gui to interface with this line of players (don't know if you are on x86_64 or x86, you could just rebuild the src.rpm). It has some nice features, such as ogg capable, runs on a AA battery, life is supposed to be around 40 hours (I never measured) on its one battery, and radio works well.

I have the Samsung YP-C1Z (1GB). Plays ogg files and it is very easy to transfer files to it (I am using SuSE 9.3). It works just like a usb disk. -- Don
EZAV and monolith both play ogg and mount automagically out of the box as does the cowon A2.

We have one of these and it mounts with no issues as a USB drive, under /media. The player itself works well. The only problem is the known one of USB flash cards and sync mounts on SUSE 10. There's a workaround on the list archive, but it affects all USB mounts - it's not specific to this device. John -- John Pettigrew http://john.pettigrew.org.uk/ http://john.pettigrew.org.uk/blog/
