It seems that some people just cannot forget WordPerfect, so I forward
this message found on the WP9 for Linux newsgroup.
SUSE and Libranet are the only distro's that include the libs WP8 needs
(shlibs5).
As may be well known, the other WP version for Linux, WP9 (WP Office
2000), can only live with glibc < 2.3.2, which means that it still works
with SuSE 8.1, but not with 8.2 and above.

even tho i haven't used it in ages (compatability probs and i almost never use word processors in general), i'm still a fan of wordperfect.. if it would work on newer versions of linux, i would probably look for a copy. as such, i decided to check this out..

<snip> Corel is currently testing the market to see if there is a demand for WordPerfect for Linux, and is only for sale on eBay. $10 plus $10 S&H. Just search for Linux WordPerfect and you'll see several offered.
i just did a search on ebay as suggested, and all it came up with were books and the very old versions of wp that don't work with current distros.. -- trey

wp 8 starts up fine on my SuSE9.0 but I really haven't tried much more than that. I did get a crash when I was testing it prior to this reply, but that could have been a fluke. The Corel program I really miss since upgrading beyond SuSE 8.1 is Corel Photopaint. My wife and daughter were quite fond of it. After installing SuSE9.0 I loaded it up using the same instructions I followed w/ SuSE 8.1 but Photopaint never gets past initializing (corel's version of) wine. Any ideas from someone who got it working would be appreciated - -- dh Don't shop at ZipZoomFly.com! -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFAWhE4BwgxlylUsJARAiwoAKCd5bOzeTdGjjEeKh42rkKPLBtGtQCfWMH9 yUefj+jtZ6d36lpr5YYsSso= =xqjy -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Because of changes in glibc 2.3.2, Wine had to be largely rewritten. Corel's version of Wine, however, is an abandoned project. Maybe you could install SuSE 8.1 alongside 9.0. While installing 8.1, do not put Grub or Lilo in the MBR then, so you keep using 9.0's Grub, in which you add an entry for 8.1. Pretty much expected that after the m$ payoff.

Even though I've got about 5 os's on this machine I really hate to reboot just to use a single app, I pretty much get by w/ win4lin if I need something not available in linux.

I will be getting the Linux 9.1 when it comes out. What would I have to do to run WordPerfect on that OS, or is it possible? I am putting together a new faster machine, and I will wait until the new SuSE comes out to install it. But I have used WP for years, and like it. (I actually liked WP 5.2 better.) --doug At 22:47 03/18/2004 +0100, Sjoerd Hiemstra wrote:
