XDCMP, X-win32 and firewall..
Hi all! I'm trying to get SuSE to work with XDCMP from X-Win32 via a firewall.. I remember that I should open up port 177 in the firewall, but shall I open for tcp or udp traffic? Also, how do I do to get a remote login screen in X-Win32 if there's already another user logged in at the linux box? Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

My advice: Don't do it that way. Go to www.ssh.com and download their freeware ssh client (which also gets you a drag and drop file xfer prog). Use that to open a shell, on the target machine and have Xwin32 running in the Windows box. Then just type xterm or whatever you want to run in th shell, and minimize the ssh session. This is vastly more secure, and if you set your ssh daemon and client up correctly you will be able to take advantage of the compression that ssh affords. I use this a lot when running on windows boxes. Even the lighweight putty.exe can forward x sessions if you have a xserver such as X-Win32. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
