[SLE] RE: +AFs-SLE+AF0- Gnome +ACY- KDE: friends or foes?
To be honest, I still think the X Managers need to come a long way before Linux hits the average +ACI-PC World+ACI- customer. I like KDE, and I use KDE - despite the resource hungry thing it is. But there is something about it that I don't like and I just can't understand why+ACE- It looks... how do I put it... +ACI-Not Professional+ACI-. It looks disjointed. I am not making myself clear, but I don't know how to put it+ACEAIQAh- Is it the font? Is it the icons? I've tried different +ACI-themes+ACI- and I seem to get the same impression. Perhaps it looks too technical -- and I like to think of myself in this category+ACEAIQAhACEAIQAh- KDE have done a good job, despite my moans - and I am looking forward to 2 - something just doesn't look right though+ACE- GNOME to me has that better something, but at the same time looks too +ACI-square+ACI- and too babyish+ACE-? I used GNOME when I used RedHat (where Gnome is favoured by RedHat) and I kind of liked it. Someone help me out here and please explain to me what that missing +ACI-thing+ACI- is with the window managers+ACE- Perhaps I've been using NT/Win98 for too long. What a thought, eh?+ACE- And I have tried a number of WMs... esp as I am constantly trying to find the happy medium between usability and funcionality and size when accessing desktops via Java VNC. Do any of y'all have opinions as to the relationship and future of GNOME and the KDE? I have run into a few very nice GNOME tools lately. I have been using the KDE since it was in alpha. I do like it. I haven't spent a lot of time on GNOME, but it is looking more attractive these days. Is this forking? Do we get hybrid vigor or just a zero sum game where one rises to prominence and the other goes the way of the beta video tape format? Where's Michael Lankton when you need him?
