[opensuse] openSUSE no more
To those of you who answered/read my post of earlier today about problems with my Internet/wireless connection and keyboardwell the problem has been solved. I changed distributionsto PCLinuxOS. Thanks for your suggestions. A posting from another forum gave me the answer I needed. My printer problem has not been solved yet, but the wireless connection and keyboard have given me no problem whatsoever. Sorry openSUSE. Patrick: I certainly can understand his frustration after I spent a whole month trying to get my system working right. I have FC-6 on another box here and had the latest Kubuntu standing by, waiting for my fuse to blow. Luckily the problem got solved before that happened. Since then I have flown FC-6 for a while and it also is a nice distro. Both do what I want them to do. I can report that FC-6 gave me absolutely no problems at all, unlike the initial hal problem in Suse10.2, but now both run ok. I don't see a big deal about people switching between distros. It really just depends on luck. I know people who swear by a distro until they get a new laptop and then suddenly another distro works better out of the box on that hardware. All of these distros put in hard work and I am grateful to all of them. On 2/19/07, Kai Ponte <kai@perfectreign.com> wrote:

Agreed! I never - more than in jest - put down anyone using Linux. I have friends on Ubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat, CentOS, YellowDog and Linspire. Anything but Mac or Windows is fine with me. I even have one super-mega-geek friend using KDE on BSD. :P -- kai www.perfectreign.com || www.4thedadz.com www.filesite.org || www.donutmonster.com closing the doors that surround me so no one will ever penetrate complete my retreat just to wait for the day that never comes so i will laugh alone -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I must have the wrong friends. :-) All the people I know are MS slaves. There might be hope for my 6 year old son. I installed SuSE 10.2 on his PC and he loves playing with Rosegarden connected to an organ. Maybe I'll get his piano teacher interested too.

Well, I'm a MS slave at work, if that makes you feel better. In the groups of friends, though, I know many running *nix. They're out there!

Hmm - rosegarden. Never heard of it. Installing as I write.

Know what? I only knew of one guy at my old work who had even downloaded Solaris 10. Kind of weird, too, because you'd think solaris would be more popular than any given Linux distro. My first real use of Unix came playing on SPARC boxes after I graduated college. Except for the poor UI (when compared to OS/2 and Win31) I thought they were interesting. -- k -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
