Thanks, Jay. I've spent some time looking at their boxes....NICE stuff, but a tad more $$ than I can spend right now. The MOB on the box I spec'd out is one of the best Intel boards ever made - it's a real "screamer!" Thanks! If money is an issue go cheap like last years models. I have a PII which runs 9.1 pro just fine. See what you can find on ebay or at goodwill. CWSIV

Others? | | Thanks! | | Fred | I using a box from Monarch (www.monarchcomputing.com). Been real happy with it. Didn't ship with linux (or windows either), but it was an option, and the box had tux next to it in the list to show that it was penguin friendly. Cost was around $1500 US, but it's a AMD64 box in a Lian-Li case. Just recently received a Penguin Computing Altus 3200 server with 9.1 Pro. So far, running o.k. Had a small problem with a kernel update causing the adaptec raid card to reset after about 5 minutes and then causing the volumes to be mounted read-only and write-protected. Went back to the factory 2.6 smp kernel and problem went away. Otherwise, very pleased. Was cheaper than an IBM/HP/Sun Opteron box.
