[opensuse] TW observations
I have not installed a new Tumbleweed in years. Today I was prep'ing a new machine for our datacenter console, and decided I might as well use Tumbleweed. In yast ncurses, I was surprised to see - a) to change to wicked I have to tab into the option, it is not available with keyboard shortcuts under Change->Network Config. b) that predictable interface names were used by default (easily changed, I know). c) at the end of installation, a pop-up window with no timer ? That one meant a bit more exercise for me - I saw the installation drawing to a close, so I left my office to walk to the datacentre and see the box boot-up. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.2°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

d) I have a "main update repo" /update/tumbleweed ? e) ntpd does not start on boot-up. I guess I should have tabooed chrony. :-) -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.3°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, and sometimes it is used. Like a security issue found when the distro can not be re-released.
But, Tumbleweed is "re-released" all the time? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.4°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not always. Sometimes there is a blocking, some package that doesn't build, or openQA does not pass, or something. And then TW stalls for two weeks. And precisely then, there is a security alert. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Well, I think someone would have to be immensely clever to get that update out - we don't have such an update directory on download.o.o. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If you try to go there you land at download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory:/Update/standard/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Duh, I forgot to check for a redirect. Right, thanks for enlightening me. :-) I was updating my repo list to use our internal mirror, and we don't have those redirects so yast complained. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.2°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I did deselect chrony, but obviously forgot to check if it got automatically selected. It was chronyd that prevented ntpd from starting. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
