I am new S.u.S.E Linux 5.3 user. Befor I used xisp - ppp-dialer program on RH5.0. When I try to install it on SuSE 5.3 by entering next string rpm -i xisp-2.2p2-2 I get message libforms.so.0.86 in needed by xisp-2.2p2-2 I get such message foê xisp-2.3p3-1 and xisp-2.3p4-1 too. What can I do? Can any help me? Vladimir Shtepa Moscow - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Vladimir Shtepa Moscow Do you have xforms installed? Doesn't look like it. If it says something's needed that's a dependency failure message, so the solution would here would be to install xforms.

You have to get the XForms source from <A HREF="http://bragg.phys.uwm.edu/xforms"><A HREF="http://bragg.phys.uwm.edu/xforms</A">http://bragg.phys.uwm.edu/xforms</A</A>> or <A HREF="http://bloch.phys.uwm.edu/xforms"><A HREF="http://bloch.phys.uwm.edu/xforms</A">http://bloch.phys.uwm.edu/xforms</A</A>> bxform-088.tgz is the file I have here. The bxforms thing also does not actually place the some of the later xforms 88 files in places as it should. You may have to do some hunting and see if the make install actually puts some of the files where it says it does. One file I had to hunt down under suse 5.1 was forms.h. I watched the compilation and saw it was failing on finding a certain forms.h thingee. I compile most of my stuff and I would suggest also getting the latest xisp and compiling from sources. The latest version I have is 2.5p4. This cleaned up the interface a bit and I think the accompanying help file was better done. I compiled this version on SuSE 5.3 with no additional xforms lib requirements other than what comes with SuSE 5.3. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Aparently this package requires glibc. Get the same package but compiled for non-glibc distributions (almost anything except debian2.0++ and redhat5.0++). -alexm ------- - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Neither of which is glibc. Why do you think his error is connected with glibc when it clearly says 'libforms.so.0.86 is needed by xisp-2.2p2-2.'? Am I missing something?

The earlier versions of xisp seemed to have some problems with finding the correct version of xforms. I installed the right one before and tried time after time with rpm paks and could not get an install. I then grabbed the latest source and compiled after upgrading to xforms 88 here with no issues. I should point out on SuSE 5.3 that I compiled the latest version of xisp with no xforms issues. I have not installed bxforms from the sources. The make install process on bxforms does not place forms.h in its correct place either or where xisp wants to find it. When I watched the compilation process on SuSE 5.1 I could see where things were falling apart. After copying forms.h where it wanted, xisp was there. For some reason, I have had terrible luck with the rpm packages from RedHat or wherever for xisp. I also wrote the developer about this and he encouraged me to try the non-rpm sources. Just my experiences. -- Michael Perry mperry@basin.com ------------------ - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
