As long as those syncs are waiting in the 'D' state, you cannot touch those processes. The 'D' is an imprecise reference to "disk" wait, though it's just a catch-all for synchronization on an event that is expected not take long to occur and, more importantly, cannot be interrupted by any signal, even SIGKILL (9). It's probably a sign of some problem and I've seen it happen in SuSE 9.1 with kernel 2.6.something. You might want to look for disk errors in your log files. A lost interrupt, e.g., could cause this, I think.
