Using KDE Printing Manager/KdeprintFax/Ksendfax
I am trying to work out how to send faxes from my SuSE9 system and have been going round in circles. I have tried the manuals but I cannot seem to get anywhere. Which software do I use, and how do I get a document "printed" to the fax modem? I am using CUPS. The printing manager lists a number of "printers" including the Advanced faxing tool, but I cannot work out how to print to it, since it doesn't appear in the print dialogue boxes. For example Mozilla just lists postscript/default and postscript/HPLaserjet (my only physical printer.) O-Office lists the laserjet, generic and KPrinter. I thought the last might be the one but there are no options to select the device in its setup window. Could some one please point me in the right direction, I haven't a clue how to start and the manuals don't seem to provide the answer. -- Tim Nicholson BBCi at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated. I'm not sure how others are doing it, but I can tell you how it is set up here. I use 'kprinter'. In Mozilla, choose 'print' from the file menu, then click on 'properties'. Change the print command to kprinter and adjust your margins. I also set kprinter to be the default printer in Open Office and other apps. This give me a single print interface to deal with. As for faxing, setting up Hylafax is realy easy and can be accessed from kprinter. After installing Hylafax from yast, run faxsetup as root and answer the questions. Edit /etc/inittab and uncomment the hylafax line (you may have to change the ttyS1 to whatever port your using). Then run kdeprintfax and configure it to use hylafax. -- Louis D. Ah, thats good progress, the double dialogue box (mozilla then kprinter) is a nuisance, but at least I now get the printing options...

double dialogue box again which is a pain!!

I've got hylafax on, is it better than Ksendfax? -- Tim Nicholson BBCi at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ This e-mail (and any attachments) is confidential and may contain personal views which are not the views of the BBC unless specifically stated. I agree. It still seems to be the best way for me so far. <snip>

I have never tried Ksendfax. I went with HylaFax because I needed network access and wanted to try email to fax gateway someday. The only complaint so far was one person wanting to recieve email on sucessful transmission instead of just when errors occured. I just had to add "-D" to the command string and she was happy ... so far ;-) -- Louis D. Richards LDR Interactive Technologies

If you use the same pc as fax which you use for creating your documents, good old efax is still a fine solution, despite being unchanged for years now. SuSE does however not include it in their distribution, you need to download if from the authors website. kprinter, even on SuSE, is preconfigured to use efax anyway when you select "print to fax", see the config menu there.
