[opensuse] bad sharpness of contrast in Suse 11.0
Hi, I installed Windows xp and after that Suse 11.0 and after comparing both I can see that Windows has a much better sharpness of contrast. You can read much better. The letters and all the windows are much clearer visible. I tried to change the resolution but it didn't help. I configered the desktop/appearance/icons but it did not help either. (Another problem is that the size of the Windows and fonts are quite big. It didn't change after restart.) Could it be that windows has a better driver? Where could I get a driver for Linux graphic card : ATI RV2805961 I checked the website of ATI but I haven't found anything like that. Where did you get that number? Which card is it? like ati hd1600 or something similar. If you are running 11, add the ATI repository, and should pick it up. Franz, I suspect you are in need of: http://opensuse-community.org/SubpixelHinting -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. David,
In addition to the freetype2 RPM that Franz has mentioned, you would
also need a version of Qt 4.4 with subpixel hinting enabled at runtime
(for all KDE) or a cairo2 patch with subpixel hinting (for GNOME).
The Qt4.4 fix is available in the Qt BS at :-
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Qt44/openSUSE_11.0
For the cairo2 RPMs, you can refer to my reply at the blog :-

Thanks Anshul, But I think you meant: _Franz_, In addition to the freetype2 RPM that Franz has mentioned, you would also need a version of Qt 4.4 with subpixel hinting... David already has both... -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
