4gl usually applies to compiled languages and IIRC means 4th Generation Language.

"Scripting" languages usually mean those that are interpreted, not compiled. Perl, html, php, etc, are generally interpreted. c/c++, fortran, etc. are generally compiled.
What do they relay mean by scripting and 4GL leval languages ?
