Greetings friends, New to Linux, and I am running 9.1 Pro. Here is my setup: ASUS A7N8X-E Dlx AMD Athlon 2800+ Corsair TwinX DDR 1.5GB PC 2700 ATi Radeon 9500 Pro 128MB (2) WD Raptor 36GB SATA (2) WD Caviar 80GB UATA JB Sony DRU-510A A couple of issues: 1. I can't get the system to use a Striped RAID (0) type config. I tried using LVM and got nothing. The system failed to boot more than twice. Now I have the SATA1 with /boot and the filesystem, and SATA2 is /usr. GNOME worked on the first boot, and now I can't get it to work at all. I get little dashes where the words should be.... Pointing and clicking is ok, if you know where you are going, so I have to use KDE. 2. Rhythmbox keeps crashing, I assume this is due to me using KDE...but I don't really know because all the other programs seem to work ok. 3. YOU doesn't seem to work. The connection times out. I turned off the firewall, and manually searched on a server at Indiana University, success. But the automated process fails. 4. I can't get drivers for the USR modem or ATi card to work (in 3D) I thought there would be a generic driver loaded for the modem, (I don't really need it now) but there wasn't from what I could tell. The ATi driver I loaded from their server for xfree86 4.3 kept the system from booting a GUI. I could only get a text UI. and it keeps me from playing the 3D games. I know that is dumb, but since I'm in up to my knees, I want to know what the heck is going on. Thanks to the community for the help, I appreciate it. I have read quite a bit of the other mails that float around, and I'm learning already. Thank you Troy http://ww.troyoverton.com
