[opensuse] Is someone building Thunderbird-ESR for 13.1?
All, Thunderbird 24.8 is the current ESR release. I can find firefox-esr in the Mozilla repo, but no thunderbird-esr and none are listed in webpin. Anybody know of a tbird ESR build for 13.1? If not, I suspect the normal tbird 24 .spec should work for rebuild, but where would we find the old srpm to nab it from? -- David C. There are no "ESR" versions of Thunderbird anymore because the regular release schedule changed to the one matching Firefox ESR. So all versions officially released as Thunderbird are somehow ESR versions when it comes to the Mozilla baseline. The latest you can get atm is 38.2.0 which is also available for 13.1. The have designated 24.8 as next-prior esr on Mozilla FTP. See: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/latest-24.0esr/ That's what I want a 13.1 version of, even if I have to build it myself. That's why I was asking where I could get a spec for 24 from the old srpm that suse used?? -- David C. Yes, this was probably the last TB version called ESR. But why would you want that one year old unsecure thing?

Oops, First reply went directly to you Wolfgang, sorry. Bottom line is: - I like this version, (currently using 24.7), - it works, - it's not a radical departure from being just a mail-client, - it doesn't crash repeatedly like the current version, and above all: - it has a REAL 'Preferences' dialog interface that I can READ because, - it still relies on gtk2 theming - it does NOT use that horrible webified substitute 'Preferences' thing that is impossible to read under a dark theme because it attempts to use gtk3 that leaves me looking at *white-on-white* text/options (or *black-on-dark_grey*).

Thank you Wolfgang! You are a lifesaver! I branched that package and deleted the source and told buildservice to retrieve (Remote URL) the 24.8.1 source. (I never know if that actually works, but I didn't want to upload 134M with a 764K upstream pipe :( ) I've currently limited the build request to 13.1 x86_64. If that works, I'll add i586 and let you know how it goes. -- David C. ok, TB 38 doesn't crash for me as well as long as there is not tracker-miner-thunderbird installed.
and above all: - it has a REAL 'Preferences' dialog interface that I can READ because, - it still relies on gtk2 theming - it does NOT use that horrible webified substitute 'Preferences' thing that is impossible to read under a dark theme because it attempts to use gtk3 that leaves me looking at *white-on-white* text/options (or *black-on-dark_grey*).
Now I'm confused. Thunderbird and also currently Firefox is still Gtk2 based while Firefox switched the preferences dialog indeed. But is there really a difference in the dialogs between TB 24 and 38? I didn't notice that on my system. But then again I do not use a dark theme and maybe don't see the difference.

I can probably do that update as well. BTW, I don't want to upload that stuff as well because my upstream is not much more than that but OBS is not able to do what create-tar.sh does unfortunately. Hmmm. I ended up having to upload the source from mozilla from my local drive, but there appears to be a directory structure difference between the old created 24.8.0 source and the raw source for 24.8.1: [ 48s] + cd /home/abuild/rpmbuild/BUILD [ 48s] + rm -rf thunderbird [ 48s] + /usr/bin/bzip2 -dc /home/abuild/rpmbuild/SOURCES/thunderbird-24.8.1.source.tar.bz2 [ 48s] + /bin/tar -xf - [ 71s] + STATUS=0 [ 71s] + '[' 0 -ne 0 ']' [ 71s] + /usr/bin/bzip2 -dc /home/abuild/rpmbuild/SOURCES/l10n-24.8.0.tar.bz2 [ 71s] + /bin/tar -xf - [ 76s] + STATUS=0 [ 76s] + '[' 0 -ne 0 ']' [ 76s] + /bin/tar -xf - [ 76s] + /usr/bin/bzip2 -dc /home/abuild/rpmbuild/SOURCES/compare-locales.tar.bz2 [ 76s] + STATUS=0 [ 76s] + '[' 0 -ne 0 ']' [ 76s] + cd thunderbird [ 76s] /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.Df0gnE: line 44: cd: thunderbird: No such file or directory [ 76s] error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.Df0gnE (%prep) So it appears the new source doesn't (or something doesn't) create the expected 'thunderbird' directory. I have diffed the sources yet, but I would be surprised to find a difference there. I'll try again. -- David C.
