I have installed wp8 on two diff machines. When it comes up, the icons atop the panel showing the blank page and the script graphic in the "program" panel are corrupted and uninteligible. However, if I click on the icons, they work to reveal the underlying screens or whatever. I had no such prob installing wp6 on the notebook (see below) a yr ago. I suspect a corrupted d/l file.
In my case the splash screen and top box graphic were also corrupted. Netscape icons were also showing as low-res monochrome. All these problems were corrected by dropping the colour depth from 24bpp to 16bpp. Steve Crane stevec@netlane.com <A HREF="http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec"><A HREF="http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec</A">http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec</A</A>> - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

I removed all the wp8 installation and d/l'd the GUIGL000.GZ file again from www.download.com. After reinstall, I got the same error. Now, I'll try your suggestion. I had the same problem with a S3ViRGE control card. I was able to fix this problem by moving from the X86_SVGA server to the XF86_S3V server. It works for me at 24 bbp.
