Hi, Can somebody knows if after the last update of Yast2 I can install kde 3.01 with problems? Thank you Thadeu
I have SuSE 8.0 successfully installed on my office PC ... a windows-free machine to make a point. Konqueror and Everybuddy function fine, or at least they do after running YaST2 update. KMail is still not functioning properly. The office network is DHCP through a 56k modem ... soon to be upgraded to a T1 line ... hooray! The manual has been no help. Any suggestions as to where I might start looking, please? Thanks! doc

Nice ;)

Well to begin with, have a look at your description of the problem(s):
KMail is still not functioning properly.
- says next to nothing about anything really... I'm not personally going to be of much help, since I quit using Kmail, and so don't know what problems there would be in the version that comes with SuSE8/KDE3. What I *can* say, however, is that for anybodyto be able to help you, you need to be somewhat more specific about what the problem is. you're able to get mail, but can't send? you're able to send mail, but can't receive? Kmail won't start at all? It starts, but ...well... you get the point? Describe the problem, and I'm sure you'll get the help you need to fix it in no time... ;) hth Jon Clausen
KMail is still not functioning properly.
It starts, but ... won't successfully send or receive -- complains that it cannot get to the server. Same problem here at home via ADSL. Why would the Web browser and YaST2 update have no problem but KMail have one with precisely the same two access systems (work: 56k modem via the network, home: ADSL). BTW: What are you using for mail instead of KMail? Thanks! doc
Sounds like you haven't properly set up the outgoing and incoming mail servers. With a dial-up modem, those should be SMTP servers, then dialog for setting is something like this: In Kmail, choose the menus: Settings - Configure Kmail - Network Then you'll have tabs you can click on for "Sending" and "Receiving". Start by clicking on "Sending," then "Add" (or "Modify" if you've set it up previously), the box for "Name" can be any name you like - Doc will do. "Host" is probably verizon.net (to judge from your Email address). Save that, then click "Receiving", again "Name" can be Doc, "Login" is your Email username (is it really "e.net"?), then "Host" once again is, I'm guessing, verison.net. Save that, and you're ready to roll. I assume you've got wvdial up and running, right? Personally, I like Evolution much better than Kmail, but that's your call. - Robert Storey in sunny, polluted Taiwan On Sat, 2002-06-01 at 08:45, doc wrote:

Problem solved ... for some very odd reason wvdial is not in the Kmail startup sequence. Also reset a couple of things. Will fix my office pc tomorrow ... and then start showing it off! Thanks to Fred & Robert! doc
