I'm testing the evaluation version of 6.3. Some highly useful commands (rdev, expect) don't work. With rdev I get the following, surprising answer: --------------------------- # rdev /dev/snd: no such file or directory --------------------------- -- # \\\|/// # (-@-@-) # ====oOO==(_)==OOo========================================== # Andrei Mircea <mircea.andrei@wanadoo.fr> # .oooO Oooo. a) The evaluation is exactly that: for Evaluation. Many (several hundred) applications included in the retail distribution or even of the FTP distribution are missing. After all, it's only one disc. In the case of `expect', however, you are inquiring about an tool that has its own package (expect.rpm) in series [tcl]; I *think* that it's even on the disc, but I can't be sure. b) /dev/snd, IIRC, is pretty much depreciated. What is rdev trying to do? Does it actually need to access /dev/pcm or /dev/mixer? -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | Kansas City, MO /\\ 816-241-2641 x107 | http://www.atipa.com _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

That's a rdev bug, /dev/snd is a danling symlink into /proc, where the alsa driver isn't loaded. If you don't use alsa, remove the link. Thorsten
Thank you Thorsten, that was it. As for expect, I copied the necessary files (expect and the tcl7.6 files) from 6.1, since the expect from my 6.3 hanged. By the way - I looked into the *.spm packages but did not find expect ; is it included with tcl ? -- # \\\|/// # (-@-@-) # ====oOO==(_)==OOo========================================== # Andrei Mircea <mircea.andrei@wanadoo.fr> # .oooO Oooo.
