The following is a copy of kinternet-log when attempting to get connected to my ISP on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. [SuSE Linux 9.1 Professional with ltmodem-262-38.2.i586.patch.rpm applied.] Yast detected the winmodem, and after ensuring correct permissions the modem actually worked. I remember in older versions of linux chap/pap secrets and chat scripts were involved, but YaSt does not seem to have created any of these. Puzzled - please help ! # # SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.16 on linux. # Status is: disconnected # trying to connect to smpppd # connect to smpppd # Status is: disconnected # Status is: connecting # pppd[0]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded. # pppd[0]: --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54. # pppd[0]: --> Initializing modem. # pppd[0]: --> Sending: ATZ # pppd[0]: ATZ # pppd[0]: OK # pppd[0]: --> Sending: AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 # pppd[0]: AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 # pppd[0]: OK # pppd[0]: --> Sending: ATM1 # pppd[0]: ATM1 # pppd[0]: OK # ppd[0]: --> Modem initialized. # pppd[0]: --> Sending: ATDT06760202202 # pppd[0]: --> Waiting for carrier. # pppd[0]: ATDT06760202202 # pppd[0]: BUSY # pppd[0]: --> The line is busy. the ATDT line is doing the dialing.... You should be able to dial the same digits after the ATDT on a analog handset plugged into the modem and get the computer screech from the other side answering. So..... Looks like the first thing it is dialing is a 0. is 0676 020 2202 a valid number where you are dialing from? B-) On Friday 04 June 2004 02:30 pm, R C LEEMBRUGGEN wrote:

Thanks, your suggestion confirmed that the ISP was really not responding, as the number was wrong - should have been ...20202 i.s.o ...202202. Dumb error on my part, probably due to so many previous failures to fix the problem, that when it was actually fixed I kept looking for the problem ! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brad Bourn" <brad@summitrd.com> To: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Friday, June 04, 2004 10:47 PM Subject: Re: [SLE] ltmodem problem
