[opensuse] How can I stop KDE?
Dear All, when I installed SuSE 13.2 yesterday, I made the mistake to answer yes to the question, if KDE should be started immediately. Now, I want to give a second user the possibility to start KDE. But this is not possible because KDE starts automatically for the first user, and I do not know how to drop it. Do I have to re-install SuSE 13.2? If you mean that user is getting automatically logged in, it should be possible to turn this off in the settings for I think the Window Manager or Desktop Manager. This could be either LightDM or SDDM and there should be some setting in KDE for that (KDE System Settings). Nothing to do with the window manager, or a desktop manager ( there's no such thing ). It's the DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN setting in /etc/sysconfig/ displaymanager (that will be changed by KDE's SDDM control module, needs root access) that "decides" whether a single user can autologin. -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. Hi Wolfgang, in Leap 42.1 it would be: * Start YaST * open Security and Users >> User and Group Management * under Expert Options (lower right corner) select Login Settings * uncheck Auto Login I don't have a 13.2 system at hand, but there's a high chance that ist's the same (or at least very similar) there. /Andreas -- Cahn's Axiom: When all else fails, read the instructions. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes this is the best way, editing sysconfig settings may not set all the same things that Yast does. In 13.2 KDE4, this is also available in Start / Config Desktop (aka system settings in some languages), System Admin grouping at the bottom, Login Screen, Convenience tab. You will need roots password I believe. -- After all is said and done, more is said than done. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks in advance for your help, Wolfgang Edit /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager Remove the username between the quotes on the DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN= line. Reboot and you'll be presented with the SDDM login screen. You'll see it also if you simply logout, instead of shutdown.
