Just wondering if anyone on the list was running KDE 3.1.95-0 from the apt repositories. Just did an 'apt-get update' and noticed this was the latest version available rather than 3.1.5. Any showstopper problems or is it worth the upgrade? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks. -- Cheers, Trey --- Thieves respect property; they merely wish the property to become their property that they may more perfectly respect it. -- G.K. Chesterton, "The Man Who Was Thursday"

Everything that is in there is working. However, as per usual with the kde supplementaries, there are a few things left out due to misconstructed rpms. This time it's the remote desktop sharing (kdenetwork3-vnc), so if that's important to you, don't upgrade. Otherwise go for it. Also, there aren't any src.rpms, so rebuilding is more painful

Hey Anders. Good to hear from you again. Any cool new features to be aware of in the new version? Thanks -- Cheers, Trey --- In answer to the question of why it happened, I offer the modest proposal that our Universe is simply one of those things which happen from time to time. --Edward P. Tryon

The one most people are talking about is the "universal sidebar", which is basically a kde service menu thing that sits on the edge of the desktop providing one click shopping to your bookmarks, and other items you get from the konqi kparts Apart from that, it all seems a little snappier, and a little better put together. I like it. Oh, and you get kontact, the kde version of evolution

Does kmail supports message filters to move message to different directories on an IMAP account? Praise

No, not yet. The goal is to have imap filtering (on the server) in the next release. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

BTW, ignore this. It seems the packages in the supplementary have been rebuilt with vnc back in. I haven't tried those packages, I run the ones from kde.org
I've been using it for a couple days now. Seems to be pretty cool. There are -1 pkgs available now which I'm assuming were just corrections in packaging. The only weird thing I've seen is that Konq STILL screws up CSS pages..at least it screws up LiveJournal pretty bad. It puts all the popdown items into rows instead of waiting for you to run your mouse over them so they become menus. Other then that little problem I've been happy with it. I'm running it at work since I have 9.0 installed there. I might wait a bit before I do the 8.2 pkg at home. I'm in no hurry at home since I use my Powerbook 99.999% of the time these days anyway. I would recommend it. At least it doesn't crash as many apps as 3.1 did when it was rc status. I tried it today, the installation went fine, you have to install 2 rpms from the DVD, a new rpm called taglib and to update your installed rpms. One conflict exists with kdebase3-SuSE. It is OK if you choose the options --nodeps --replacefiles. The result is fine, menus problems are all solved, fullscreen TV and video works. I detected only one bug in kwrite, cut and paste doesn't work well with the default editor but everything is OK if you choose the qt3 based editor. I'll keep it. Michel

Problem solved, with thanks to Marcel Br. It was the Sound blaster PCI 128 sound card and the combination with my AMD processor. Now use the on board sound card. Thanks all...

Yes, it is worth upgrading. Don't know about SuSE's packages since I compiled from pristine source, but one thing I found is that k3b no longer works in "on the fly" mode. A bug report have already been opened at bugs.kde.org for that: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73135 Charles -- There are no threads in a.b.p.erotica, so there's no gain in using a threaded news reader.
