PCMCIA problem on Dell Latitude C610 using SuSE8.0
Hi! The problem: can't boot the machine with anything but 'external' PCMCIA, using 'kernel' it freezes during boot. Using 'external' allows me to boot the machine but adding a PCMCIA card freezes the machine imediately. Have seen the support notice "PCMCIA:The boot process hangs" at suse.com, and tried what it proposes, doesn't help. I can load pcmcia_core ( insmod pcmcia_core ), but am not able to load i82365 whatever parameters I try. I get one out of two answers (this is when I've defined PCMCIA=kernel in /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia and started linux with NOPCMCIA=yes) : #insmod i82365 irq_list=9,10 Using /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters or # insmod i82365 pci_int=0 Using /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o /lib/modules/2.4.18-4GB/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o: invalid parameter parm_pci_int I've tried just about every conceivable combination of IRQ's to no avail. I've also tried other parameters than pci_int but I get the same type of error message as for pci_int. Ok, first, you're correct in choosing "external" for a DELL! ;) According to: http://home.datacomm.ch/tschoepfer/suse73_on_dell_latitude_610.html your configuration should resemble something like: * PCMCIA My /etc/rc.config.d/pcmcia.rc.config looks like this: PCMCIA_SYSTEM="external" PCMCIA_PCIC="" PCMCIA_PCIC_OPTS="" PCMCIA_CORE_OPTS="probe_io=0" <- This is very important! I found this for someone else setting up a DELL, and it seemed to do the trick. (don't rely completely on me, because I'm not running a Dell laptop) Also, for any other lap-top issues, don't forget about: http://www.linux-laptop.net Good luck! Travis.
