[opensuse] firefox doesn't work, but konqueror does
I've recently installed OpenSuSE 10.3 64 bit on an HP Pavilion laptop. The internet connection, (DSL with modem/router and ethernet switch) works, e.g. ping works all the time, but browsing with firefox and email with thunderbird don't. (Firefox times out trying to contact a site). Browsing with Konqueror works normally. Any advice on what to do? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

make sure it's to work on line and not off line -- Hans Krueger hanskrueger007@roadrunner.com registered Linux user 289023 411024 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thanks for your reply, but that is not the problem. It is trying to connect e.g. it says "Connecting to www.google.com..." but never gets anything. On 5/31/08, Hans Krueger <hanskrueger007@roadrunner.com> wrote:

Try in about:prefs flipping the state of network.dns.disableIPv6. -- ". . . . in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you . . . ." Matthew 7:12 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Al, these are just guesses, but.... Could firefox be somehow trying to use IPV6 addresses while your infrastruture doesn't support that? In firefox, type about:config into the address bar and search for and disable anything related to the use of IPV6. I haven't used Thunderbird in a long time, maybe there is something similar? Do you have IPV6 implemented on a system wide basis? (YaST->Network Devices -> Network Card -> Global Options) If it is enabled there, try disabling it there at least temporarily (unless of course you need IPV6). -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I disabled ipv6 as you said and now firefox and thunderbird work normally. I don't know if I need ipv6 or not :} On Sat, May 31, 2008 at 4:51 PM, Don Raboud <dwraboud@telusplanet.net> wrote:

If you don't know then you probably don't need it. ;-) Glad it is working. -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
