Hi JP
Sorry but I didn't make myself clear. I would like to use diald Instead of wvdial, but all links seem to point to wvdial and not diald.
Ah, it's almost simple, then :). You can install the package suseppp from series n on the CD's (many have made it work, though I have not) or look for a pakage called pppsetup from the slackware distribution (this may be found at http://www.linuxnow.com in the file library). Then you can configure diald after the basic ppp connection is made. Mind you, this requires a lot of manual tweaking.
If I could used diald then it seems like a relatively simple matter to set up a crontab to do the dialling for me at four hour intervals. Is this possible ?
Sure, but why? diald establishes a connection every time you need to access a non-local network. If you were simply looking for an hourly connection, wvdial + crontab could do the work effectively. For that matter, if a 24/7 connection is what you're after, wvdial can automatically reconnect when the signal is dropped. Can you elaborate more on *exactly* what you need the connection for?
Another stupid question, the SMTP setup in Pine, is it the ISP address or localhost ?
Either one :). If sendmail (or an equivalent like postfix, qmail, etc) is confiured properly, there's no reason to *not* use localhost. If you do not wish to run sendmail locally (I don't; it's a security risk), use the ISP's SMTP server. -- -=|JP|=- (Resident GNUbie) Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 _\_V -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
