USERS are able to shutdown, sys did not creat the file /etc/shutdown.allow , what does that file looks like, i tried implementing # In all cases, xdm uses the first entry which matches the terminal; # for IndirectQuery messages only entries with right hand sides can # match, for Direct and Broadcast Query messages, only entries without # right hand sides can match. # !* #no host can get a login window bzw. # The nicest way to run the chooser is to just ask it to broadcast # requests to the network - that way new hosts show up automatically. # Sometimes, however, the chooser can't figure out how to broadcast, # so this may not work in all environments. # !* CHOOSER BROADCAST #no indirect host can get a chooser BUT THAT DID NOT WORK also in rc.config section kdm_shutdown = "root" what else is wrong? and why did installation not create /etc/shutdown.allow. how can i have only root shutdown and reboot sllow? hello i din't get your question properly. Do you want shutdown to be invoked by root only? in that case remove the setuid part of the shutdown (if it is set) . Or perhaps use sudo if you want any other user to also run it. -- Domain name : cheedu.dyndns.org Smile...
