Hi Gary, Here's my little edit -> copy/paste line by line into terminal 'near-scriptlet' for this specific task. Substitute your own values for 'rootpw', 'dbuser', 'dbname' and 'dbpw'. For the record: MySQL's 'root' user is a separate entity, entirely, from the host computer's 'root'. Also, mind the word wrap here as the single lines ending in ';' are just one line: mysqladmin -u root -prootpw create dbname mysql -u root prootpw dbname GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON dbname TO 'dbuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'dbpw'; GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON dbname.* TO 'dbuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'dbpw'; quit This creates the needed empty database. It also creates the needed database user and sets that user's password. hth & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Sorry! Typo correction [dropped a '-']: "mysql -u root prootpw dbname" should be "mysql -u root -prootpw dbname" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I installed wordpress lats week in half an hour http://dodin.org/wordpress/ I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You *can't* change the *mysql root user*, it's always called "root", but it do not have to be related to the system root user, nor have the same passwd. It's even recommanded *not to have* the same root passwd on mysql and the system. and for most php application, as wordpress, it's better to use only one non root user (I use "jdd"), with his own passwd and use simply one database for all the application with different table prefix. jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Thank to all who replied. I guess I misunderstood the wordpress instructions regarding the root user. Jdd I appreciate the link to your page unfortunately, I don't speak /read french. Now I have some additional questions regarding Apache and wordpress. Any gotchas, words of wisdom etc regarding OpenSuSE and wordpress? I'm a little confused as to why there should only be one database, wouldn't this give everyone access to modify someone else's MySql/wordpress tables ? The end game is to set this up so each member of my family has their own page(s). On Mar 10, 2012, at 7:00 PM, SuSE User wrote: Gary

I don't mind providing a simple hint / solution to an off topic question now and then, but Wordpress has amazingly good documentation and a huge user community, including many forums, Wiki/web pages and even IRC channels. Eveything I've learned about WP has been gleaned from those sources. I suggest you start researching your requirements there. 'Multi-site' installations might be possible, but that is beyond the scope of what could or should be addressed on this list. Also, the convention here is 'bottom posting' not 'top posting'. if it's only for a detail you can ask :-) Now I have

once wordpress is setup you will have one wordpress admin (you, I guess) and as many users as you want. none of them have to manage mysql after the first install jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
