Problems burning DL DVD
I have a LG DVD burner capable of burning Dual-layer DVD's in an AMD 64-bit machine running SuSE 9.3. I have been able to burn dual layer DVD images with it, but there have been some problems. It would normally start with an IO error and then if I try again with the same disk, it would burn it. But, recently I have not been able to burn a disk sucessfully. I have googled for the error messages that I get, but I cannot find anything helpful. This is the error messages that I get from K3B: --<snip>-- Devices ----------------------- HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B A100 (/dev/hda, ) at /media/dvdram [CD-R; CD-RW; CD-ROM; DVD-ROM; DVD-RAM; DVD-R; DVD-RW; DVD+R; DVD+RW] [DVD-ROM; DVD-R Sequential; DVD-RAM; DVD-RW Restricted Overwrite; DVD-RW Sequential; DVD+RW; DVD+R; DVD+R Double Layer; CD-ROM; CD-R; CD-RW] [SAO; TAO; RAW; SAO/R16; RAW/R96P; RAW/R96R] System ----------------------- K3b Version: 0.11.22cvs KDE Version: 3.4.0 Level "b" QT Version: 3.3.4 Kernel: 2.6.11.4-21.7-default growisofs ----------------------- Executing 'builtin_dd if=/extended/priv/iso-images/SuSE/9.3/SuSE9.3_DVD_DL.iso of=/dev/hda obs=32k seek=0' /dev/hda: splitting layers at 2078208 blocks :-( unable to SEND DVD+R DOUBLE LAYER RECORDING INFORMATION: Input/output error growisofs comand: ----------------------- /usr/bin/growisofs -Z /dev/hda=/extended/priv/iso-images/SuSE/9.3/SuSE9.3_DVD_DL.iso -use-the-force-luke=notray -use-the-force-luke=tty -dvd-compat -speed=2 --<snip>-- Any idea wht the problem is? I ran into troubles as well, and upgraded the firmware of my drive to the latest release (which is 1.04). Unfortunately the firmware upgrade must be done using Windows, but once I did that it worked fine.
