[SLE] Problems installing and using X with Voodoo
I'm using a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI-card and a Iiyama vision master pro 410 monitor on my linux box (Suse 6.4 with all the latest updates). When I install X with Sax, sometimes everything works fine (1024x768 with 32/24 bpp) and KDE will run nicely. Sometimes when I startup X (default I'm running in init 2 mode, because of this problem) my screen turns white (sometimes with some grey blocks in the bottom of the window) and my computers hangs and has to be restarted the hard way (by turning it off and on again). This tends to be very annoying and I can't seem to get my finger at the problem. The only related thing I can find is that when linux starts up it says something about finding unknown PCI-headers and ignoring them. All the hardware connected to PCI-bus seems to work fine though. Another relation can be that there is an on board video-adapter present, which I disabled in my computer setup, but turns up with "lspci" anayway, but without an irq assigned. Can they be conflicting sometimes, but not always? I'm really lost here, so any help will be appreciated. regards, G.H.M.
