1. Can they hold more than one hard drive? I assume not, but no capacity is listed anywhere I've found.
Check if the laptop has removable drive/battery/DVD|CD-ROM bays in the front. If it does you often find that they can be removed and replaced either by a second battery or possibly by an additional hard drive bay.
2. If the above answer is "no," how does one back such a beast up?
Wheither yes or no above - a good choice nowdays is to use a nice big USB2.0 attached disk. That is if the laptop has USB2.0 ports. I backed up 15Gig to one last night. Took about 40 minutes to an hour (I was not timing it exactly). It is nice and fast - when doing large copies to USB2.0 drives it is fast generally as long as you do one copy at a time. I use Parrallel ATA so I cannot vouch for Serial ATA which would probably be a bit faster.. Hope this helps..
