[opensuse] Kmail transfer from 10.2 to 10.3
Having a quit good working 10.3 now running KDE3, I want to transfer my mail folders from Kmail from the 10.2 to 10.3. Just copying the contents does not seem to do anything. What is the fast way. And how about the addressbook? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Constant, Here's what I've done in the past: a. rename the newly created (empty) kmail directory (note the 'dot'): mv ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail ~/.kde/share/apps/.kmail b. recursively copy my existing data directory as the replacement: cp -R /path/to/old/kmail ~/.kde/share/apps c. KMail 'discovers' and, if necessary, imports/reformats the data Is this what you tried already? regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It should suffice to copy the contents of ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/ and ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/ and then start Kontact. -- Carlos FL Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my disk? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I did this two weeks ago.

Restore .kde/share/config/kmailrc .kde/share/config/emailidentities .kde/share/config/emaildefaults .kde/share/apps/kmail/ (.kde/share/config/kmailrc includes the definitions of your folders. Since you did not copied it, you did not see anything of your copied contents. .kde/share/apps/kmail/ contains the status of your pop3 mailboxes. You will need it if you do not delete the messages on your server after retreiving them.)
And how about the addressbook?
For me, it was .kde/share/apps/kabc/ .kde/share/config/kresources/contact/ BTW, did you save your passwords within kwallet? Then you have to restore these too .kde/share/config/kwalletrc .kde/share/apps/kwallet/ HTH Jan -- Being born was just the first of my crimes. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for the excellent 'refresher course', Jan. Definitely a "keeper." I guess it's been so long since my last KMail upgrade that I'd forgotten these items needed attention. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Perhaps such things could be added to the Wiki? But where? Any ideas? Jan -- God may be subtle, but he isn't plain mean. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
