Re: [SuSE Linux] WvDial, Rpms, and whatnot
---Reply to mail from Rev. Michael Derek Barnett about [SuSE Linux] WvDial, Rpms, and whatnot
anyway, once i had the wvdial~1.tar file onto the desktop, i clicked it, and it opened up a window at file:/home/derek/Desktop/wvdial~1.tar#tar:/wvdial-1.10/
I'm not sure that simply clicking on it in KDE will unzip and untar the file. KDE's zip manager will do it for sure (right mouse, select the Zip option, and select Extract in the app.)
i clicked on the makefile icon to check the settings, and from what i could tell, the paths looked okay (/usr/local/bin for wvdial and wvdialconf and /usr/local/man/man1 for the man pages.) then the howto tells me to 'make' 'make install'
okay...where/how do i do this?
Once you've unzipped and untarred the file, as root start xterm. Change to the new directory wvdial-1.10. Type: make After that's done its thing Type: make install With an editor enter your 3 pieces of information in wvdialconf (phone number, username and password.) Be sure to uncomment those lines by removing the "#". You should be all set. From an xterm window follow the instructions. You can run WvDial from an xterm window, or make a desktop icon in KDE to run it not in an xterm window. This way you'll not see the connect script stuff, but you don't need that unless you're having a problem connecting. To disconnect, type: killall wvdial Yes, you can make a desktop icon in KDE to do this also.
