[opensuse] Gimp and Firefox
Every time I run gimp (latest 2.4, updated via Yast) firefox dies. Does anyone have a clue what is going on, and hopefully a fix? TIA, Jim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Don't use gimp? Use something better like Krita? http://www.koffice.org/krita/ At least Krita doesn't have a horrid SDI interface. :P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Actually, I like the gimp interface, but I've been using it for a few years. I also have a lot of plugins that wouldn't work under Krita, which I have tried, btw. Also, if gimp is running and I restart firefox, the tabs that were there before the crash appear, but never load; they just sit there like they're waiting for something to happen (like gimp closing). This happens to me without gimp running. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I do not know, and most probably wouldn't be able to help you, but if you follow my advice, you will be more likely to be helped by someone else. Please, start firefox from a terminal window. Do the same with gimp. File a bug case with the output of both windows after the crash occurs. Also, provide which version of opensuse you use, and which architecture. Version of firefox. How you install it - yast or from mozilla.org. Also, when you have time, read the article bellow, in my experience it extremely increases the chances to receive answers and solutions: <http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html> -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny) Even the most advanced equipment in the hands of the ignorant is just a pile of scrap. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

<snip> OK, after fighting this for two days I can't reproduce it now, either from menu or terminal windows. I'm running: SuSE 10.2 32 Firefox 2.0.0.11-14 (From SuSE link via Yast) Gimp 2.4.2-0.pm.2 (From SuSE link via Yast) I am currently updating both programs via Yast to see if that helps. Thinking about it, I updated gimp a couple days ago, about the time this problem started. BTW, the problem has been consistent over the past couple days, but has suddenly stopped occurring. I will let you all know if the new versions make any difference. Jim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Have you been successful in the installation of the program? I use YAST and firefox runs okay. The problem there seems to be some kind of dependency issue and it cause python a heartache, at least that is what I think. -- Joseph Loo jloo@acm.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think you are dead on there. If it is a dependency problem, they are usually notoriously hard to find/fix. Both programs seemed to install via yast with no problems.
