[opensuse] plain n light question
why openSuSE don't include multimedia support like mp3 plugin n MPlayer on the distribution dvd or cd? the silly reason my friend don't use openSuSE (i don't give my recommendation to use this distro) coz it cant play movie file n can't play mp3 files directly. is it abt license problem? of course i can't give the the packet that i ve donlod from repo via internet but how if they don't have internet access or low speed internet? i love openSuSE BR, TAMBUN -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

IIRC, they can't include it because of patents. However, they do provide links to where the codecs etc. can be found. -- Use OpenOffice.org <http://www.openoffice.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Unfortunately, openSUSE is run by a US company and they're afraid of lawsuits. Some people think that one can patent software.

Yes, but there's a simple answer. Check here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ or here http://www.acaciaclose.co.uk/index2.html Typically, the update to add multimedia you want (the low-quality .mp3 and other "popular" codecs) takes about two minutes.

Doesn't take that long. However, one probably can find a multimedia version. You know, the KDE mail tool, kmail, has a spelling checker. :P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If one installs dictionary ^_^ KMail has also 'v' keyboard shortcut. It reveals that chika is running: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686 (x86_64); en-US; rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20070803 SUSE/1.1.5-0.1 SeaMonkey/1.1.5 -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Uh, it contains several. MPlayer currently suffers from legal problems, however. Try kaffeine.

Movie files no, but it has almost always been able to play mp3 files. In 10.3 there are at least two different engines that allow you to play mp3s in many different media players out of the box Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
